Job Summary

Manages all district robotics programs and establishes a sustainable district wide effort aimed to increase participation in robotics, which includes, but is not limited to, maintain all district-owned robotics equipment, develop and execute strategy to increase the number of offered robotics programs in City Schools, support to establish sustained robotics programs at the school level, and develop and execute strategy to expose students to robotics in earlier grades.

Essential Functions

·         Manages  all district competition equipment:

o   Maintains an active inventory.

o   Arranges transportation of equipment to and from events.

o   Be physically present to check all equipment out of resource room before events; to unload and unpack the equipment at the events; to pack and load all equipment at events; to check in all equipment after events.

o   Maintains the equipment.

§  Fixes/assembles equipment.

§  Keeps the software on laptops up-to-date.

§  Sends equipment in for service.

§  Orders replacement parts.

o   Schedules regular times for teachers to pick-up/drop-off equipment at the resource room.

 

·         Manages both FLL and VEX Robotics Programs.

o   Keeps distribution lists up to date.

o   Collects proof of team registration.

o   Collects City Schools commitment forms.

o   Distributes equipment to teams.

o   Ensures that teams register for a qualifier (FLL) and at least three events, including the Hopkins Robotics Cup (VEX).

o   Collects equipment from teams that fail to meet program requirements.

 

·         Manages working relationships with all established and future partners willing to support the robotics programs.

·         Provides targeted technical assistance for coaches, teams, and principals to support program success.

·         Communicates regularly with all VEX and FLL teams through various methods, including in-person at team meetings.

·         Plans, supports and manages both VEX and FLL Robot Works.

·         Supports Baltimore City teams at the Maryland State VEX Championship and MD FLL State Championship.

·         Meets with Baltimore City VEX event partners to help them plan and manage their events.

·         Help run and plan major robotics competitions, including but not limited to the Baltimore City FLL Scrimmage, FLL Regional Qualifier and Hopkins Robotics Cup.

·         Grows robotics offerings, and other STEM programs, throughout the city.

  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and professional standards.
Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree (required) in related field, such as engineering; Master’s degree preferred.  Degree (s) must be from an accredited college or institution.

·         Three years experience in Robotics or related field.

·         Working knowledge of budget design and accounting procedures.

·         Ability to work independently and, when necessary and appropriate, collaboratively with central and school staff.

·         Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze quantitative data to develop reports to monitor implementation status and initiative success of key initiatives.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective presentations to diverse audiences.

·         Interpersonal skills that ensure effective teambuilding and networking with outside organizations in support of school-based programs.

·         Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite; programming experience preferred.

·         Experience as VEX Tournament Manager preferred.

·         Experience troubleshooting problems with technology independently.

·         Experience planning and managing all logistics and details regarding large-scale events, such as robotics competitions.

·         Experience with innovative problem solving, specifically expanding the opportunities that students have to experience robotics and other authentic STEM initiatives.

·         Willing to work nights and weekends as required.
